‘’Spindle turning for the adventurous’’

This 40 minute video is part 3 of an excellent series demonstrating woodturning using digital filming and editing techniques which gives very clear close- ups of the tool cutting edges and angles.

Two spindle turning projects are demonstrated . The second project is a rather complicated multi- centre turning of a ‘’swan necked’’ candlestick.

The preamble includes an overview of safety considerations and tool types. A demonstration of tool sharpening using jigs should be of help to those who have difficulty in free hand sharpening and have lots of money. I believe that turners should persevere in practising free hand sharpening of tools even at the cost of grinding off excessive expensive HSS. Tobias is a very experienced turner who obviously takes a great delight in his craft and he emphasises that one should have enjoyment as a high priority in woodturning .

There is a good discourse on design drawing from nature and he demonstrates this in the subject chosen for his multi- centre turning demonstration .
Well worth a viewing .
