Working outboard on the DML
Written by Pat Walsh

Since this type of lathe is limited to 8 or 9 inches over the bed the following method allowed me to turn a standard lamp base ot 12 to 14 inches.

You need 2 pieces of hardwood, 7x4x3 inches, fashioned to match existing supports. Also 2 steel tubes 18 x 11/4 ins and 2 metal strips, 5x11/2 x1/4 ins with a hole bored in the centre.

Remove tailstock and move headstock to opposite end. Fix new assy across bench at right angles to the drive centre allowing enough space for the work piece, about 4 ins.

Fix to bench with 2 lengths of 1/2 threaded bar. Then fit banjo and tool rest.
