Welcome to the
Dublin Chapter site
Background
The Dublin Chapter was founded in 1990. It
is a Chapter of the Irish Woodturners' Guild. The Chapter
has members from throughout the Dublin area and
surrounding counties. Initially, chapter meetings were
held in Larch Hill, the national campsite of Scouting
Ireland. In 1997 as the numbers attending monthly
meetings had outgrown the Larch Hill venue the meetings
were moved to Terenure College. Terenure College is
still the venue for the monthly meetings. However, for
2010 all monthly meetings will be held in the Willington
Scout Hall, Templeogue. It is hoped to revert to
Terenure College in 2011. Please see the section on
Monthly Meetings below for more details.
Membership
There is a membership charge of €5.00 per
year (on top of the IWG membership fee) to cover Chapter
newsletters etc.
We are always happy to welcome new members.
If you would like to come along to one of our monthly
Saturday meetings and see if you like it, please contact
any member of the committee.
For

Monthly
Meetings
The Dublin Chapter holds its main
monthly meeting on the first Saturday of each month beginning
at 10:00AM and finishing about 1:00PM. The monthly meeting is a
great place to meet fellow woodturners and participate in the
various events like the monthly woodturning competition etc.
The meeting usually consists of :
- demonstration of
woodturning
- monthly woodturning
competition
- a cup of tea/coffee
- opportunity to borrow
books/videos/DVDs from the Book and video club
- the chance to meet old friends
and other woodturners
The main monthly meeting is
usually held in Terenure College. However meetings have been
moved from Terenure College for all of 2010.
For more details see the
Meetings section of the site.
The Chapter also hold a second
meeting on the first Thursday following the Main Saturday

Templeogue.

Reports on demonstrations at meetings, book and video reports,
advance notice of demonstrations and competition subjects,
trade and member advertisments etc. etc.
Exhibitions
The Chapter
holds a number of woodturning exhibitions each year. These are
co-ordinated by the Exhibitions Committee which is appointed at
the AGM.
Workshops
The Chapter also facilitate members who host
woodturning workshops in their own premises. Such
workshops are announced in advance and members must make
their own arrangements with the host. A contribution of
€5, to cover tea and biscuits, is usual.

The AGM of the Chapter is usually held at
the November meeting. At the AGM the committee for the
next year is elected and the winners of the annual
